چکیده
12 AI MAGAZINE Recent advances in smart human-machine systems, including wearable robotic technologies and neural interfaces, which are able to detect conscious choice, decision, and intent from the patient, now allow the design of wearable robots and powered prostheses and exoskeletons that assist and work cooperatively with people with disabilities (figure 1). Recently, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) defined a powered exoskeleton as “a prescription device that is composed of an external, powered, motorized orthosis used for medical purposes that is placed over a person’s paralyzed or weakened limbs for the purpose of providing ambulation.” Moreover, the FDA determined that powered exoskeletons are class II devices with special controls that provide reasonable assurance of the safety and effectiveness of the device.

Modeling and Design of a Spring-loaded, Cable-driven, Wearable Exoskeleton for the Upper Extremity
An approach to the design of wearable exoskeletons on the basis of simulation of the exoskeleton and a human body model is proposed in this paper. The new approach, addressing the problem of physical human-exoskeleton interactions, models and simulates the mechanics of both the exoskeleton and the human body, which allows designers to effectively analyze and evaluate an exoskeleton design for t...

Study Design Systematic review. Clinical Questions (1) When used as an assistive device, do wearable exoskeletons improve lower extremity function or gait compared with knee-ankle-foot orthoses (KAFOs) in patients with complete or incomplete spinal cord injury? (2) When used as a rehabilitation device, do wearable exoskeletons improve lower extremity function or gait compared with other rehabil...

This study introduces a wearable in-shoe system for real-time monitoring and measurement of the plantar pressure distribution of the foot using eleven sensing elements. The sensing elements utilized in ShrewdShoe have been designed in an innovative way, they are based on a barometric pressure sensor covered with a silicon coating. The presented sensing element has great linearity up to 300...
متن کاملThe ESA Human Arm Exoskeleton for Space Robotics Telepresence
This Paper describes the design of the ESA Human Arm Exoskeleton, which has been developed to enable force-feedback telemanipulations with redundant robotic arms. It is described, how several shortcomings of previous telemanipulation systems were eradicated, to meet the system requirements for a lightweight, easy wearable and comfortable system. The patented novelties towards prior arm exoskele...
